Best West Ashley Breakfast This is a no brainer. The Bear E Patch Café is the best by far. The portions are huge; the grits (which comes with just about everything) are creamy and they even grill their homemade biscuits. The price is right and the service is great. I like their corn beef hash. They open at 7 Monday-Friday and 8 on Saturday. Closed on Sunday

Best West Ashley Salad Bar The “International Salad Bar” at Sunfire Grill wins this one hands down. The tuna salad and humus with fresh pita bread separates them from the pretenders. They also offer a frequent lunch card where your 7th one is free! They also feature some of the best in-house desserts you can find anywhere

Best West Ashley Lunch – Alcohol Free Our old friend the Bear E. Patch has another winner here. Their sandwiches are great, the portions good and they offer an interesting variety of sides. They feature the normal fare of French Fries (seasoned or unseasoned) but their batter dipped onion rings and potato salad are also great choices. Whenever I need a Rubin, I know where to head.

Best West Ashley Lunch with a Beer Tbonz Gill and Grill. The offer a wide array of lunch specials and feature their own microbrewer beers. Our choice is “Cooper River Red”. They also feature “Kaminsky’s desserts which are to die for.

Best West Ashley Place to Take Friends for Dinner Amuse is a combination tapas and Italian restaurant. Try the duck. If you’re looking for a quick bite go somewhere else. Be sure to try the duck. If you’re looking for excellent food and wine served at a leisurely pace then this is the spot for you. Did I mention the duck?

Best West Ashley Chinese Frankly I don’t know how they do it. The quality of the food is off the chart but most of prices are under $10. I love to eat and I’ve never left without a take home box.

Best West Ashley Italian I’m not much of an Italian food fan but my daughter – who loves Italian food -- insists that Al Di La is not only the Best Italian Restaurant in West Ashley, its the best in the state. The gnocchi is decadent and the atmosphere relaxed.

Best West Ashley Bagel and Coffee I don’t like to include any chain restaurants in a Best of West Ashley list but Panera Bread is the exception. The location near the Citadel Mall has a pretty fair bagel and a decent cup of coffee and both are hard to find in West Ashley. It’s also a nice place to hang out if you’re a computer junkie since it features free Wi-Fi.

Best West Ashley Hamburger If you love a good hamburger, I mean you start singing Jimmy Buffet at the mere thought of a great burger then The Map Room is your place. They grind their own beef so they can serve it at whatever doneness you want (instead of medium well or worse like everywhere else in town). I like mine with lettuce and tomato, Heinz 57 and French fried potato (waffle cut), big kosher pickle and a cold draft beer…

Best West Ashley Sports Bar If you like noise and don’t mind some cigarette smoke while watching the game, then Bobby Hartin’s is for you. The beer is cold and the wings are great and you won’t be embarrassed if you let out loud yell for your team. Typical bar food but a great environment.

Best West Ashley Bakery Rococo German Bakery is a traditional old style bakery with high quality breads and pasties. You can gain 3 pounds just by inhaling the amazing fragrance.

Best Places in West Ashley to Take Your Dog
West Ashley Dog Park The jury is still out but West Ashley recently open a new dog park. It is located across the street from the Main Post Office on Sycamore Avenue. It is right next to the skateboard park. So far so good, but hopefully no one will start bringing aggressive dogs to the West Ashley Dog Park and ruin this one the same way they have so many others.

West Ashley Park West Ashley Park (Near West Ashley High School) is the best kept secret for taking your dog for a run. If you drive all the way back to the very end of the park there is an island where your pouch can get a good run without fear of getting hit by a car.

Best West Ashley Oil Change There is an old joke around our house that “patience” is my middle name. Unfortunately my first name is “no”. If you hate to wait an hour for that “30 minute oil change”, try the Jiffy Lube on Ashley River Road. Because they are just a bit off the beaten path they are almost never crowded.

Best West Ashley Grocery Store Bi-Lo On Sam Rittenberg. Great stuff and they have a hot bar lunch Monday - Friday with freshly prepared chicken fingers, meat loaf, mac cheese, etc, and a complete cold salad bar. Best lunch value in West Ashley; for under $5 you get a great meal.

Best West Ashley Bookstore This one was almost won by default. The Barnes and Noble at Sam Rittenberg and Ashley River Road is huge and has a Starbucks.

Best West Ashley Office Supply Store While there staff isn’t always the most helpful nor friendly, the Office Depot store at Sam Rittenberg and Ashley River Road has pretty much everything you’ll ever need.

Best West Ashley Mug of Beer Senior Tequilas on Sam Rittenberg offers a 32 ounce draft Dos Equis in a well frosted mug for only $4 bucks at happy hour.

Best West Ashley Pitcher of Beer Tbonz. Our favorite is “Cooper River Red”, but some of the other local brews are great as well. Plus they always have seasonal beer. If they have the Belgium Ale, order it with a few orange slices.

Best West Ashley Wings If you like them meaty then go with West Wings on Sam Rittenberg. They look closer to coming from a small turkey than a big chicken. If you like them tasty then Bobby Hartin’s is the place. That’s where we always go for wings carryout.

Best West Ashley Restaurant We Never Go To Manny’s on Old Towne Road. Great food -- and I love Greek food -- good service but the place is so smoky we never go there anymore.

Best West Ashley Barbershop If you like old style barbershops then visit Ed’s, next door to Blockbuster’s in the same strip mall as Office Depot and Barnes and Noble. Don’t expect “shampoo girls” or fancy hair gels, a good haircut for under $15 is all they offer. I use Glenda but everyone is pretty good.

Best Place in West Ashley to Ship a Package PostNet is located between the Food Lion and the old Wal-Mart. We needed to get some antique skis shipped in a hurry and they got the job done for use. Plus, they’re nice folks.
